Window Washer

Hello,

I just followed the "official club scion tc transmission oil change DIY". It was very useful thanks.

But one question I can't quite find an answer to on this board and others:

how do I check the level of the gear oil?

I poured in 2.5quarts, but I'm a little anal and I want to make sure the level reads okay before driving it!

How do I do it?

I don't have an owner's manual btw.

Thanks!

I don't think there is an accurate way to do it. There's no dipstick. If you put in 2.5 you're good.

THE SHADOW

You have 2 bolts to remove and the one near the back and bottom is the drain hole, the other near the front and up (when viewing from underneath) is the "fill" and/or check hole. If you pump fluid in the trans and fluid trickels out from there, then you are up to proper level.

The top green hole is the fill/check hole. I personally use the reverse sensor to fill the trans but if you have a pump, you can use that fill hole.

I have alredy drained and filled the tranny with 2.5 qts.

If I remove the "fill/check" bolt right now will tranny oil SPEW out or just trickle out like you said?

I've heard that TOO much gear oil can screw up a transmission too!

How does the fill/check hold show if there is TOO much gear oil?

Thanks

THE SHADOW

With the car on a level surface, you remove the fill/check hole (the fluid SHOULDN'T pour out like the drain hole) and then insert your pinky. If you can feel the fluid inside with the tip of your pinky, it's got plenty in there.

Overfilling is not a good idea either b/c it can cause excess fluid to leak out seals.

If you know you put 2.5 quarts exactly in there, then you're fine. If you want to add .25 more just to keep your mind at ease, that's fine as well. Just don't add another whole quart.
