Hey, I actuallu did that on my bimmer rims. I would not recomend it though. I took off the rim, got my tires taken off (friend is a tire rotator and stuff at sears). Then I took fine sandpaper and sanded the -clear coat- off my rims and then i spray painted them. I fucked it up once and Im telling you DO NOT paint your rims. lol. I did it again and then clear coated them and they look awesome now. But it seriously was nt worth the trouble!!!

Probably would be easier and less stressful (and more durable) to have them powdercoated. They do all the clear coat removal and stuff there in large vats.

True dat, but painting is budget friendly. Still, it-s up to you. One guy on the site did powdercoat the stock rims black. Looked great, but I can-t be arsed to look for the thread right now. If you-re really eager to see them, check under -Exterior Styling-; I know for a fact that it was in there, in a thread under a similar name to this one.

I’m hoping to get my tC within the next month or so. I plan on getting one in Super White w/ no options but have a few mods in mind already for it. One of which I’m considering is having the stock 17?wheels painted to match the body. I was wondering about everyone’s opinions on this. Anyone had this done? Think it would look good or too “rice? Also, if I do decide to paint them, where should I have it done and how much should I expect to pay? Can the dealer do it? If I get it done, I want it done well. I don’t want the paint chipping off if I look at it sideways.

I don-t think that-d be ricey at all. So long as it-s just straight up a clean job, it-ll look good. Here-s the thing: have them powder coated. I don-t know how much you can expect to pay, but $400 per wheel sounds like a pretty average rate. Maybe even $200. I don-t remember, but there-s a woman that comes into my workplace quite often, who drives a red 350 Z with matching powdercoated rims. Of course, I had to ask.Dealer probably won-t do it. Look around your area for places that specialize in powder coating. Around here, Les Schwab won-t do alloys. Stupid move, if you ask me.

I just remembered that it was $100 a wheel; $400 total.Anyway, there-s the price you can look into. Not a bad deal at all, and something I-m considering as well. But, I do like my rims as they are. So does the rest of the world.

I painted my rims and a lot of my friends rims. I used Duplicolor spray paint. Never used any other paint besides Duplicolor. Cost a total of $8-10 maybe.Heres mine. They use to be gunmetal.http://i4.photobucket.com.../Mx6GT89/76ac2efe.jpgAlso painted these.http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/Mx6GT89/e485e732.jpgI have a lot more Ive painted. My friends 17-s on his 240. They were silver, then I painted them gunmetal and now there black. I had GST wheels on my car painted bronze.

I just hope it will last. Duplicolor is great, and rarely chips...but these are rims...the surface isn-t an awesome surface to paint on in the first place.

I give all the rims I paint a little sanding. Paint sticks great and the rims that Ive painted have never chipped. Hard to believe I know, the rims on the Sentra have been painted for about a year now. No chips too far.My GST wheels I only had for a few months. They were track wheels, I treated those like sh!t. I threw them around in my garage.

I-m definitely a fan of painting your factory wheels as an alternative to buying new ones. I saw a couple nice paint jobs on yoursciontc.com and my friend painted his stock evo wheels. While I don-t like his color choice (bronze) I-m going to paint my stock wheels either black or gunmetal as soon as I find the time. I-ll probably leave the centercap and lug nuts their original color, just to add a little contrast. But one thing I know, is that u have to sand/scuff the clear coat off the wheels before u paint, or else it wont take.

Paint will still take even if you don-t scuff the rims. I didn-t do anything, all I did was clean them with rim cleaner and tape off the tires. I sprayed about four coats of paint and three coats of clear coat. Mine can be seen on my CarDomain site.http://www.cardomain/ride/753643

He left out the .com. Just add that after -cardomain- and it-ll work. It-s white with bronze-ish rims and stock lug/center cap color. Looks pretty good.
