TRD springs problem, need help.

Ok, so this is my problem, i installed the TRD lowering springs almost a year ago and changed out the brake rotors like 5 months ago. Just last week, my driverside rear tire lost all air pressure. When i took it to a local tire shop, they showed me what happened, there was at least a 6" by 1.5" long gash on the inner part of the tire (where it sits on the road). The mechanic said it may be caused by the lowering springs and said it looks like it was at least 3 months of wear on the tire. So this is making no sense to me why it would all of a sudden start wearing the tire down.

So i was recommended to get an alignment, understandable, BUT one place i took it to said that they wouldn't be able to adjust the camber angle (which was said to be around -3.5) without buying a camber adjusting kit because the car was so new (07), which was around $600 just for the rear wheels!!! Now the dealership said they could possibly fix the problem with camber adjusting bolts, but no promises.

Has anyone else ever had this happen or heard of this? And what should i do? Just fyi, when i installed the rotors, i had scrapping, which was caused by the metal plate that i guess keeps debri from getting into the E-brake housing. So i just "adjusted" the areas it was rubbing and the noise went away, but i could still hear a very faint rubbing noise. I just don't see how that changing the rotors would affect the camber angle. This is frustrating to no end and any help would be awesome.

It sounds like the dealer is blowing smoke, but I'm still not sure I understand what you're talking about.

Did you get it aligned after you got it lowered. If not then that is what caused it. You absultely should get it alinged after putting new springs on. Or else it will cause uneven wearing of the tires. Therefore meaning one of ur rear tires could go bad while the others are still good.

Alright, I can understand that the negative camber might put some extra wear on your tires, but its odd that it would cause your tire to rupture like that.

But I think that kind of camber should be correctable. -3.5 is pretty bad, but I dont think the adjustable kits will be necessary. Just take it to a respectable place. You probably should have gotten an alignment when you put your springs in, haha.

Definitely should have gotten alignment after the spring install, but I don't think I understand how the tire ruptured either. This rupture was in the sidewall or the tread surface? And was the extraneous wearing consistent around the entire tire in that spot or was it localized to a specific area?

I've been driving on my TRD springs for about 25,000 miles and there is no tire wear to indicate alignment being off. Something isn't right, this is not a common issue.

I just got mine aligned yesterday from my drop a couple weeks ago. I didn;t think it was going to be bad b/c I couldn;t feel any pull or anything but the guy who did my alignment said it really off. Even if it doesn't feel off, always get it aligned.

TRD drop will not give you -3.5* of camber! even my stechs drop did give me that much camber lol. Unless your camber was really messed up for factory then they are for sure messing with you.

edit: Lol Orin same thoughts at the same time

Alignment is one of those things that needs to be done anyway. The TRD springs are so mild that an alignment isn't even needed (not right away)

It's not going to be serious enough to gash a tire or cause abnormal tire wear or pulling. There is some other factor at play here, not being told. Perhaps the springs were not properly installed to begin.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. My Progress springs gave me like -2 or so.

edit: if it came from the factory like that, would most of the damage be covered by the warrenty?

^^ It'd be a tough case but possibly. They could argue that it's a wear item and that you should have had your alignment checked.

complete bs that your TRD lowering springs could rupture your tire. the drop isn't even that much that it requires a wheel alignment. i never got a wheel alignment w/ my springs because my car felt perfectly fine but when i changed to TEIN Basics coilovers i did.

Hmmmm, the plot thickens. Well at the time, i didn't know i needed an alignment, so that's my bad and with the -3.5, i'm not sure if he was shooting from the hip. As for the tire, it was on the tire tread and was only on one spot. Well either way it looks like i need to get that alignment before anything and hopefully the dealership can diagnose the problem before it gets any worse. I appreciate the replies.

So maybe there is a problem with the stock coilovers....?

i don't see how your stock struts/shocks will affect the tire itself. also, like the guy that mentioned his stechs didn't make the camber that off so definitely not the TRD springs. an alignment is useful regardless for uneven wear but i had TRD springs for about 1.5 years w/ no problems and others i've read for 2-3 years now. u think maybe a long nail or something got stuck n ended up ripping it up after some time? weird situation lol.

No nail that i can think of would constantly make a rubbing noise along with a 6" long gap in a tire. It has to be rubbing up against the inner wheel well or something. I agree this is wierd...

oooo... so maybe your rotor that was installed might be off and when you're turning it hits but even then i would think it would show signs all around the tire not just one area. the springs definitely dont lower the car that much where it hits anything.
