So I know tons of posts have been made as far as upgrading headunits but there havent been any responses or anything with results that I am looking for. I am looking for a double din dvd touchscreen headunit that will allow me to still use the steering wheel controls and run the ipod connection through my car like it is already setup. I have the upgraded headunit on a 2008 scion tc. Any suggestions as far as units that meet those specs. would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It's a nice unit but I don't need to have the nav unit. I have heard that with the nav unit if you want to use the navigation you cant listen to cds at the same time.

I've been in the same boat as far as trying to get some suggestions, but I've been looking into the JVC arsenal line, and the specs are impressive.

For a double din touchscreen, these are the two that I've been looking at:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12103_JVC+KW-AVX810.html

http://www.pioneerelectro...AV-Receivers/AVH-P4000DVD

Both can be gotten for a great price at http://www.ikesound.com

I like this pioneer much better then the D3 because it doesn't have the navigation crap that I won't use and actually has good output power for clear sound. The 2.2v preamp outs on the D3 are entry level at best. I hate to bash the D3 cuz its a good entry level multimedia unit, but it does nothing better then average. I'm concerned about sound quality.

Both of these units have full ipod control through usb, and both will require a little DIY for the steering wheel controls if you want to use them. Hope that helps a little.

This is what i have.

http://www.eclipse-web.com/avn/avn5495overviews.html

it is the greatest thing ever. i have sattelite on it. and since its hard drive theres no changing cds in different areas or sacrificing the nav for cds. i dont even need cds. i have 40+ almums uploaded on the hard drive. it also instantly made my factory speakers sound better and is easy install for other accesories. its pricy but you can find one on ebay for cheaper. just be careful with the seller, its how i got mine.

^^That has good specs, but its too pricey for what you get. Its retailing around 2k and the cheapest I found it on ebay is 1100. For that kind of money it should have built in bluetooth. That's a nice headunit though. I imagine for that price that its got a fast processor. Is there any lag in the menus?

none at all. i got mine for 1k even w/shipping. from someone on this forum. he was "suppossedly" a car audio guy at circuit city so i knew it would be taken care of. i love it, its slow when upgrading it but thats just once a year. as for bluetooth. it would be cool, but i think the hard drive music juke is worth the penny. you will need sub though cuz when i installed it it made my speakers crystal clear but the bass was gone. the equalizer cleaned up everything. it sounds great. oh and it plays movies too. it was modded to work while in motion, nice for the passenger.

There's a Kenwood double din touchscreen that just does the dvd playback and ipod stuff. I was talkiing to a local sound shop about it on the phone. They have the JVC on display that I'm interested in (not the double din but the KD-AVX44) and I'm going to go there tomorrow and play wit it. I'll get the model of the Kenwood while I'm there because its very reasonably priced. Not sure about the steering wheel controls though...

^^That one isn't very good. This double din JVC is much better, just check out the specs: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_12103_JVC+KW-AVX810.html The 810 provides much higher sound output quality.

You can get it for the same price as the 710 here :http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/7225

No steering controls for either though, as far as I can tell, but the ipod connection you can install wherever you choose.

This is a universal steering wheel control adapter that works on any aftermarket headunit that has an infared remote. You'll basically have to program each button to its corresponding remote flash code.

http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=597

JVC does not make any type of adapter for these radios.

I can't say 100% without a doubt that it will work because I've never had a vehicle with steering wheel controls to need one (I have an 05), but the one I linked to works on the same concept as a universal remote. Its going to send an infared signal to the headunit just like the remote control would, so it should work the same as the remote. You'll just have to program it, and I don't know what will be involved in that. The picture makes it look pretty straight forward, and I'm assuming that you will select a button and then use the remote so that the unit will copy the signal for that function, but I'm not positive on that.

On a side note, did you look at the link for the headunit I posted a few posts back? The 810 unit is far superior to the 710 unit. I was at an audio store the other day, and they had the 710, and the rep told me it wasn't very good. The 810 has 4v pre amp outputs vs the 710's 2v ones. 2v is absolute garbage for audio out.

Yeah I was looking at the post and your right the 810 does look alot better but I didnt see anything regarding steering wheel controls and I hate to just have the controls just sitting there and not have access to them. You know what I mean?

Any JVC is going to need some type of universal steering wheel adapter, so the 710 vs the 810 shouldn't matter for that.

Cool. I finally decided on the unit I want, and I'm ordering it tonight. I'm getting this: https://ikesound.com/product-product_id/7506

Its not touchscreen or dvd, but I don't care about that. I just want good sound quality. It's got built in bluetooth and a USB input to hook up an Ipod or thumbdrive. You can even turn off the internal amp for audiophile quality sound from a good external amp. The price and features were right for my needs.
