Spilled milk!!

Okay so last week my friend spilled a Gallon of milk in her XB. She soaked up what she could and the next day took it to get detailed. She is still complaining about the smell. She is seriously considering getting her entire carpet replaced! Any ideas on getting rid of the smell?

what did the detailers do exactly? steam clean the carpet?

there are always methods to rid the car of odors... so leave the replacing carpet to be the last resort.

resolve (comes in red spray bottle) takes out any stain, and get febreeze for the smell. should be ok. how long did your friend let the milk soak in before washing it?

I only know of two ways to get the smell and or stain out. I know how milk can be and the smell is HORRIBLE.

First Solution::
- Coffee beans! As silly as it might sound, it does really work. Tell your friend to buy some coffee beans and spread them all over the area and let it sit overnight. It smells great and absorbs all the sour smell. Then just vacuum it up the next day.

If that doesn't work for you.....

Second Solution::
- Go to Petsmart or Petco (any animal store should have it) and buy a product called Petzyme. Go to the spill or smell and pour generous amounts of Petzyme on it. Make sure to get the one with the aqua label because it has the best scent, but you can choose whichever one you want, just make sure its Petzyme!
- Let it stay on for 10-15 minutes then if you have a wet-vac, get a wet-vac and suck up all the dampness and what not. If you dont have a wet vac you can get one really cheap at any Target store. It was like $40.
-Use the wet vac repeatedly until everything is absorbed.
- If it still smells, repeat these same steps!

worst case... an ozone machine will take out any odors.. (even cigarette smoke odor)

however, the ozone has its own distinct smell that will stick around for a little while.

She had it steamed the day after the milk was spilled.

Steaming actually makes the smell worse!

You should never, ever, ever, use baking soda inside your car. Febreeze wont mask a smell this bad either.

Putting baking soda directly on the fabric can discolor it or fade it.

not that I would put it in my car but they have the new boxs where you take the sides off and don't actually open the box so it won't discolor (I use it in my fridge)
