I figured I'd post in here, since I've done detailing semi-professionally in boot camp (impact incarceration), as well as for a professional shop and in my neighborhood (upper-middle/lower-high class).

Here are my choices. PM with any questions and I'll try to answer them.

Wax - Zymol:

I have used the Original Formula for almost 7 years now and have always been complimented by the shine of my vehicles. This is an amazing wax, but you do pay for what you get (pricier than Mother's and some other brands). If you're serious about detailing, there's lots of good stuff in their product line. Apparently the company has a very solid history when it comes to detailing products, so if you want the best of the best and you're willing to do things yourself to get those results, I would recommend their products.

2nd Choice - Mother's California Gold Carnauba Cleaner Wax

Detailing Clay - Chemical Guys:

I ordered a kit with a heavy duty clay bar and lubricant for about $25 after I tried the Sonus brand kit on some primer overspray (which took way too long). I've heard a lot of good things about Chemical Guys across the web when I was looking for help in removing primer overspray, so I assume that this clay will do a better job than the previous one I tried (Sonus). I'll be sure to update this when I actually receive and use the kit, though.

Detailing Brush - available at Target:
(I'll try to upload a picture of this later, but it's the only detailing brush I've seen at Target.)
I got this detailing brush at Target that works great. One side a combination plastic & soft fiber bristle brush, the other side a rubber "knife" to get into cracks and crevices. I use it on the outside to get rid of wax accumulations in small areas like between the badges, mostly. On the inside, it helps you get to those spots that a rag or sponge can't reach.

Tire Gel: Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss tire gel

Great tire shine product. I've tried many others but they seem to dry up quickly or there's the potential of the other liquids/gels to sling when you drive. Use a sponge applicator, apply just enough to get a shiny appearance, but not soo much that you can see it dripping.

HEAVY DUTY Interior Upholstery Cleaner: Mean Green
You can get this stuff online or even at some local hardware/home improvement stores. Make sure to dilute it and test it before using it to clean your interior. If your floors and upholstery are NOT extremely dirty, I would just recommend some vacuuming.

Light Duty Mat & Floor Cleaner: cheap shaving cream:
Colgate, Barbasol, whatever's the cheapest, whatever fragrance you like. Just use a plastic brush and work the stuff into your mats or fiber floor of your car. The shaving cream will help to loosen the dirt and other gunk that's stuck to your mats and interior. After you brush it through, wait for it to dry a bit and then vacuum it up. Your carpeting should be significantly cleaner.

Other stuff I use is pretty standard:
-Soap: economy pink dish/hand soap - works about as good as the branded "car wash" soaps, possibly even better on oil/grease
-Brushes: plastic bristle tire brush (don't recommend wire because we mostly have 17"+ rims with less of a surface to clean), detailing brush (see above)
-Wash Sponge: large wash mitt or "dogbone" sponge, dishwashing sponge with the "string net" to remove bugs and other stuck-on contamination
-Applicators: circular terry wax/polish applicator, curved tire shine/gel applicator (usually have a yellow "handle" part and black sponge part with a "C" shaped cut into it)
-Polishing/buffing towel: microfiber

For the windows I just use any standard foaming glass cleaner. For the dash and non-fabric parts of the interior, I just use warm water and a towel.

You can check my helpful car cleaning tips thread under Detailing, Or you can go to the Reviews forum and read review threads on products people have already used to clean their cars.

Just make sure you do an 'advanced search' before you make a forum to make sure this topic hasnt been covered already.

To clean a fabric headliner, use automotive upholstery cleaner. Never use strong chemicals or any cleaning agent that discolor or damage the fabric. Make sure to follow the instructions on the label of the cleaner for best results. To be on the safe side, it’s wise to test the color fastness of the fabric by applying the cleaner to fabric in an inconspicuous place on the headliner (in a corner or under a sun visor, for example). To combat tough stains, it may require spot pre-treatment or repeated applications.

I wouldnt use that wheel wax!! To me its not the greatest because while driving it throws it all over the side of the car. Making a black spotted mess and you have to scrub really hard to get it off the car!! From experience lol .. I use the Armor All Tire Wax that u use the pad to apply it!! Works wonders and shines for weeks!!

Would never use a brush to clean the car on its paint!! You get scracthes from the bristles!! I use any kind of sponge! The new Armor All one works wonders!!

Car wash and Wax i recommend the Ice!! They are a great product for sure!!!
