ok, So I just got a new Cobra XRS 9300, This is a 12 Band detector..
I live in Houston, TX
ok now here are my questions

what is K band, X band, Ka Band, and most of all POP band???
today i was driving around and I saw all these things on my screen(the lcd on the detector)

I was at a red light and my detector said Ka1 radar alert, and I looked to my right, a police SUV pulled up right then and my dad and I started smiling...IT WORKED..but im still confused

What are the common radar bands used by cops?
What is the Automatic Door Opener Band?? (I saw that when i pulled into a CVS my detector started going off as K1 alert.

HELP

if im not mistaken X/K/KA are your most common radar frequencies(SP)
the automatic doors always trigger my X as well as approaching over passes (not sure why that is) K/KA are usually wat the cops use while they are cruising around wasteing tax payers money (had to put that in there). im not 100% sure wat each one is actually for.
This "POP" im not sure wat this is, coz i have a plane jane 9-band idk if thats another feature for the higher end models or what.
and if u hit "city mode" it wont pick up the automatic doors so u wont be pestere by your detector, but i leave mine in highway mode, so its always blowing up on me.

POP is Lidar or Lazer

No, LIDAR is lazer.

POP is instant on Ka band. It goes from off to full power within 3/10 of a second and get your speed within 2 seconds unlike conventional Ka that takes up to 7-10 seconds.

where are they commonly found? It gave me a POP reading around an Airfield, and a few other times but I didnt see any cops...

Yes...

X band is the most common automatic door frequency closest to an IR reading...Infra red

K band is also close to an IR band so it will be seen around shopping centers but a lot of those "white boxes" that cops have on the roads reading speed are K band.

Ka is 100% cop.

Ku is a Eurpean band that hasn't made its way over much but IS in some use. It's close to CB radio frequency and sometimes you can pick it up near 18 wheelers. Helicopter radar also uses Ku b/c it has a wide pick up range from far away and can be easily manipulated while moving.

Spectre I/II/III is a radar detector detector band. Cops have devices that read off radar detector signals and can track them. States that do not allow radar detectors equip their vehicles with these devices and catch people using radar detectors.

VG2 is another type of radar detector detector band as well.

POP is mention in the above post.

LIDAR is lazer. "LIght Detection And Ranging". Simply described as a highly concentrated beam of light.

Airfields have a lot of communication traffic going on and a lot of signals can become amplified and be perceived as a different band/frequency. A lot of times they are false alarms, but depending on the quality of the detector, most can be overseen by the scanning mechanism inside.

thanks web. still im confused on wat triggers my detector as im approaching an overpass or comeing off an exit from the interstate. i dont see any cop. are there dummy devices just for people with detectors just to kinda keep them in check?

I know, I was implying that they were the same but different names

Also, on my detector, I have a warning called V band. It's gone off a few times but I have no idea what it means.

v band is for emergency signals like the road workers or if there is an accident being tended to that pops up

Close....."S" band is safety or warnings (safety vehicle approaching with transmitter that detectors will pick up and alert you....cop car, firetruck, ambulance...)

V band (on the Cobra detector) is for VG2. That means there is a cop in the vacinity using a VG2 radar detector detector.

Radar reflects off solid objects so you may be picking up radar scatter. It's normal....some detectors are more sensitive than others but at times, that can be annoying.
