Ive been wanting to get an intake on my car for quite some time now, but just couldn't justify the high price tags of the injen and such like. Finally, out of curiosity i looked on ebay. Now don't go hammering me yet, i already felt shame just for going to ebay. But finally i decided to just go against everything ive ever learned about cars and intakes and harmonic resonance and just buy a $30 ebay CAI, just to see. Turns out, its not so bad!

and it matched my wheels so nicely.
Here's the problems i ran into with this $30 intake.
1. Its 2.75" piping, it came with a 2.5" coupler, and a 3" inlet filter. the coupler was quite a pain.
2. The MAF sensor didn't quite fit in the hole, and the bolt holes to hold it down didnt quite line up. So after a lot of very very, slow slow grinding with the dremel, everything fits and seals up nice.
3. I got a check engine light for about 1/2 an hour after first starting it up, but it went away. Im guessing the MAF just didnt appreciate being out of the car and moved around and placed back into a strange new world. But the car runs fine and everything seems to be A-OK.

So my review - for $30+$20 shipping, as a $50 intake, im pretty happy. Best thing ive done for my car that cheap yet. There were some fitment issues, but what can you expect from a $30 intake in a market where name brands cost 10x as much? The car sounds like a car now, its great. Im happy. And sure, maybe the injen makes 2 more ponies than me, but mine sure looks good.

it actually sounds pretty mean. More so than i expected. Now i just need some exhaust work for those low notes. I saw a stainless catback with a muffler for $80 on ebay. But i know better than that. Im sure the welds will suck and the muffler will spit fiberglass in a week. But as far as the intake, its sweet.

did u reset the ecu? try puttin the filter to light and see if any light comes thru if u see light that means its a cheap filter and u should buy a K&N one at autozone or pepboys. also the coupler looks very cheap compared to injen makes sure it seals tight if not u can buy it at autozone or pepboys. last thing is make sure ur maf sensor is tight so it doesnt trigger any CEL. looks nice, i would check the pipe everyone once in a while to see if any debris is gettin thru the filter!

I just got a Bomz CAI from a friend for free but it doesn't have a filter with it. Does anyone know what kind or what size of a filter I need to get?

in case you never got your answer...
get a measuring tape and measure how big the pipe is, it will be somewhere between 2 1/2" and 3". Then i recommend just looking online and finding an AEM dry element cone filter that has the correct inlet size for your pipe. Be sure you get a dry element filter as oiled elements like K&N do bad things to MAF sensors.
