My radio is perfectly fine and i get really good receptions but once i turn on my headlights (HIDs from ebay $80), the radio immediately has static. Is this normal. The HID is on a relay so it is drawing electricity from the battery and the HID works completely fine. The only thing is that when I turn the HID on, the radio signal becomes a little bit crappy. For those people who has HID on their tc, do you expereince that, or is it just me. Is there an explanation for this static and is there a way to fix it. Thanks for all you response. |

Put the negative wire on the HID relay harness your kit came with and put it on the negative post of your battery. That usually fixes the problem. |

Well apparently there are a shit ton of people who have this problem. I'm not exactly sure if it's due to the ballast quality or the actual harness that is used. I searched some other forums to see if anybody had a known fix.....

well i have the operatic kit and have the same problem =P From what i have tested, the radio get more static during the "charge up" phase of when i turn my car on. i have my ballasts zip-tied to the front crash bar (i think thats what its called) and there are a bunch of wires that run on top of it right near the ballast itself. (got the idea from Web by the way). I also just kinda hid the extra wires under the fuse box which could also be the problem. im gunna try and diagnose this when i get home today in a few hours and i will get back to you. |

these static should now be from the relay harness because i have had the hid w/o relay for like 4 months and have been having static (not just the charging period but whenever they are on). I bought a relay harness like 2 days ago and install it two days ago, and the problem is the same, so its not because of a relay that causes this static. Anyone has a solution to this problem? How isn't stock HID like lexus having these problems... PLease help And Operatic, what would switching the connector to the battery from neg to pos do... Wouldn't the hid not work or blow up or something... How would your suggestion solve the problem and have you had previous experience with this situation? Please help me out thanks. |

What operatic was trying to suggest is that you connect the grounding strap directly to the negative battery terminal rather then grounding to the frame. Grounding to the battery has solved this problem on several member's tC's who have experienced the static after the HID install. Hopefully that clarifies the fix. ............... ![]() ![]() ![]() Search or one of these adorable kittens WILL DIE! |

i will give it a try but i still don't understand what all you people are suggesting. Are you guys suggesting that I ground the relay onto the negative terminal of the battery??? Because I have two wires that connects to the battery, one to the pos and one to the neg. I also have a flat metal plate that I use to ground the relay. My relay harness is grounded to the battery holder. You know the two long metal rod that kind of wraps around the battery, thats where i grounded my relay. So am i suppose to remove that metal plate which is suppose to be the ground and touch the neg terminal? If so, how can i do that, the neg terminal is round, and all i have is a I believe an amp on top of a flat metal plate and will not stick onto the neg terminal bc its not a wire. Please clarify more with pictures or in detail if you can.. I really appreciate all of your help |

It sounds to me that you have more wires than I do. Let me find my camera and go take some pics of my set up |

Try this .... start the car and turn on the radio and the lights so you can hear the static. Now take a spare piece of 4ga. wire and jump the neg. terminal battery to the chasis somewhere that you can make a good temporary connection. If the static goes away or improves, do a big 3 upgrade or install a grounding kit (same thing, DIY vs. kit) I prefer the DIY upgrade because a kit with 1/0 wire is way too expensive and I can run 3 1/0 wires a lot neater than 6-12 8ga. wires. |

ok leme see what i can do, ill reply back, i actually thought it may have had something to dow ith the grounding, however while i was moving my ballasts around i found a sweet spot above the engine that made the radio work nicely, until i put it down, haha anyway ill give it a shot. |

I used to have the static issue with my kit as well but that was only when I had the ground wire connected to the radiator core support. Painted metal is NOT a good ground. I moved it to the negative battery post and that cured it all. Check to make sure every connection is secure and there's no white corrosion on the ground or any connector. ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. http://clubsciontc.com/fo...-rims--5x100-pattern.html |
