header question...kinda important

ok so I installed my megan (used) header today. First question is the exsisting brackets where the header meets the s pipe are no longer used correct? it's just the 2 spring loaded bolts from the s pipe to the header?

Also I noticed that the header sits in the s pipe kinda uneven. I am not getting any leaks, but should it sit fully flush all the way around?

Thanks

I have this same header and I bought mine used also and ran into this very same question. I only used the spring loaded bolts connecting the s-pipe and the original nuts to mount on the engine. The way that I had to get mine on and sitting right was to connect the header to the s-pipe first, then I pulled up and over onto the engine. Then I just tightened everything down, and there have been no problems yet and it has been on for 5 months.

you can still use the brackets but only one of them is really neccessary. it does not really matter how the header and s-pipe sit. yes it shold be flush and even but thats also why you have that little doughnut shaped piece.

yea I assumed the doughnut gasket was doing its job. and one of those brackets will fit? shit I will have to look again, I didn't think either one was going to reach.

also, I went to take the 2nd o2 sensor out of the s pipe, and it makes a 1/4 turn and stops. I read that it's cross threaded...any suggestions on how to get that out without destroying the sensor?

Thanks!

The brakets from the header to the engine (at the bottom by the s-pipe) aren't really necessary. I'm not using either of them and I've had my header on for over 35k with no issues. As long as the gasket is keeping the joint from leaking, then you should be fine.

The o2 sensor shouldn't be giving you that trouble taking it out. If the s-pipe is cross threaded, then you would have difficulty putting it into the new s-pipe, not taking it out of the old one. Youngflyer had a crossthreaded s-pipe and had to tap the bung and rethread it.

yea all I am trying to do is install an antifouler into my stock s pipe until I get a new one. this guy over on SL, states in his install his was cross threaded, that he made it sound as if they were made that way...interesting...I will just turn, wd40, wd40, turn, wd40 etc...

Might want to considera o2 socket if you don't already have one. Its a deep socket with a cutout for the wire.

Autozone would have it. I'm not sure what the size is, just that's its called an o2 socket. I think they are pretty much universal.

adding way more to a petty subject fellaz, the thread is defenitely not cross threaded and it should come out fairly easy from the s-pipe, however i do recommend taking the pipe out before attempting to unscrew the sensor as this will help the torque motion and keep you from stripping the thread...it is very delicate and fine i will say that...the header a/f sensor however, depending on how many miles you have can be a pain, i had about 32k when i intalled my first header, and i had to buy a second a/f sensor cuz the og was not cooperating...as far as the brackets, not needed but a huge help...they serve as a torque damp. without the shock absorbing...i first bought a hpr header via webman's advice, worked like a charm but it had a little too much movement to it at high rpm shifts, so i went with megan racing with the brackets welded onto it, and all that was left to say was wow...if you don't intend to invest money on an ingalls stiffy, or a weapon r, i'd suggest a header with brackets...
