I have an injen cold air intake installed... I heard if i was to use it this way people usually put a bypass valve on it to stop water from entering the engine... on the other hand i seen on the injen site Part: X-1035, a HydroShield to protect water from entering the filter, are these worth getting either of these?

Well it isn't a bad thing to take a precaution against ruining your engine. In order to suck up water and hydrolock the engine, you would have to be in a really deep puddle with the throttle open. Many time these situations can be easily avoided but having a CAI requires that you take precaution when driving in wet weather. But there are people on here who have hydrolocked their engines. It is like insurance, it is there IFyou should need it.

wit the way its been raining here in the summer, it couldnt hurt to have one...but i got thru all that heavy rain last year without having either....just made sure i avoided the extremely large puddles.....i intend on getting the hydroshield, but not tooo sure if im gonna get the bypass valve.....

for ny i mean you can avoid the puddles usually...might be alittle frustrating...but unless ur in a rush to get somewhere...id rather spend the time avoiding puddles then having my engine get fucked....but again i live in ny so i kno wat weather u dealin wit...i havent had either since i installed it last year before all the rain came

i have the hydroshield. It's a hydrophobic material that helps to avoid sucking water into the engine. It does not reduce air flow through the filter either.

Interestingly, the bypass valve cant always prevent hydrolock. In order for the bpv to work, it has to be easier to suck air from the bpv than it is from the filter. Which can really only happen if most of your filter is submerged.

But the hydroshield isn't a bad investment at all.
