So when you bought your springs (or are looking to buy) what did you consider more? The drop height of the spring, or its spring rate?

At first I think I was looking at drop height, which is why I was saving up for Tanabe DF210s (sexiest stance). But I think now Im considering spring rate more. Im leaning towards progress springs. Check the stats:

Progress Springs

Front:
rate - 200lb/in
drop - 1.8"

Rear:
rate - 360lb/in
drop - 1.8:

You got me on this one Mayo, there is a lot to consider when thinking about springs, it's more than just the drop in height, spring rate is very very important.

You're good at physics so when you do the research you'll come across the best answer in the end. I had to do a little research on spring rates and other factors and I came across this site which provides the best answers overall.

^(still reading it)

I do know that it's best to have a smaller spring rate at the front of the car to allow for a natural movement during cornering.

Will you post some specs from other springs so we can compare the spring rates?

The stiffer the spring rate, the more responsive to the road your tires will be. Only problem is, if the spring rate is TOO high, the reaction of the springs will be too stiff and give you a horrible ride and actually cause LESS traction.

NF210s are only 5% stiffer than stock for me so I'm happy. The ride is stiffer, but not a rock.

Complaining is futile when you supported the victory.

Somewhere else someone posted this awesome link:

http://www.yoursciontc.co...c=16894&mode=threaded

It shows the drop hieght and spring rate for most popular spring choices.

On a side note: Orin, if the front should have a little give, you think thats why most tCs dont use aftermarket front sway bars? I think I remember Frankryzzo explaining something like that to me.

I'm not 100% sure, but I remember hearing that because of the way the front struts are designed (as in placement), it's not vital to have a front strut tie, but others will say it helps.

I'm ditz, I thought you said front strut bar.

Basically you want some movement at the front to allow for cornering, stiffness is good, but too much can be bad.

I am running my front sway on the loosest setting. I don't think most tC's don't run front sways because they think it will hurt their handling, I think its because most people don't want to spend the xtra money for the full set.

getting back to topic, it looks like Progress springs are about as stiff as the S-Techs, but with a slightly smaller drop.

I want the little bit of flex in my front end b/c it helps keep the road holding ability of the tires during NORMAL driving. Too stiff will cause the tires to start wearing excessively.

Web, aren't the rear spring rate for NF210s lower than stock? Is that for comfort? And without a rear sway bar, would the rear lose some rigidity?
