A friend of mine just got an '08 Mustang GT and he was saying he was reading some forums and they suggested before any type of performance mod, you should change your gear ratios. While the mustang and the tC are two entirely different cars altogether, I was wondering how important is it to change the gear ratios on the tC? Is it worth it? Or is the stock ratios just fine? No sig for you! Come back one year! |

our stock ratios are just fine. The only time you'd ever need to change them is using a different transmission with a high performance engine (a drag car) for example. Even with a turbo, the stock gear ratio doesn't need to be adjusted. |

Well I know on the mustang it helps a lot. My friends mustang came with 3.55s and he put in 4.10s and know the car is so much faster. But I dont know if it would help a tC at all. ![]() ![]() |

Im sure the stock gears are fine for the everyday driver but, yes changing your gears can help a lot. I don't now what the stock gear ratio of the tC is but on my truck stock was 3.04:1 or 3.55:1 depending on what rear end you bought with it. I changed my gears out to 4:11:1; that helped dramatically on the 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. The down fall to this is that you are turning much higher RPMS at highway driving speeds, and this hurts your MPG. Now if I wanted to get better gas millage I could have went down to 3.04:1 or 2.93:1; this would mean I would be turning less RPMS on the highway but would hurt my 0-60 time. So yes changing your gears can help a lot. But, the real question is do YOU need it? |

^agreed If you're looking for better numbers on the track it's one thing, but otherwise leave it. No one wants to be 80 mph at 5,000 rpm 5th gear |
