OK. So I need some help. I want to do up my car but dont wanna spend a ton of money. I'm the typical girl when it comes to cars, i know a little and the rest i'm screwed. I wanna tint my windows the darkest possible thats obviously still legal...cuz with a restricted license i dont need more attention :-P

Help!!

i'd say if you want to go safe get about 35%. you can still see through them so in the light cops will definately not saying anything to you. in the dark, just be safe and roll down ur windows =] its what i do

You can take it to an inspection station and they can check it for you. Just don't ask a cop to check it or he'll write you a ticket if its too dark.. Personally, I wouldn't worry about checking it. You already have it on the car. If it isn't legal, then you'll only have to take it off sooner by bringing attention to it at inspection. Don't fix it if it ain't broken yet!

On a side not, I got pulled over for my tint yesterday. I was worried cuz even though I have a prescription for the tint, I wasn't sure if I needed a waiver or something else. Turns out I didn't. My warning states:

reason for traffic stop: tint
outcome: doctor's note

I'm completely against tint laws.. I think it's the practical thing to do to your car
I have 15% all around and recently got pulled over. (I live in Louisiana.) Here, *legally* you have to have your tint 35% or above which is still pretty see through-able.
The only thing that does suck about 5% tint is reversing at night.. Can get a tad bit tricky ;)

That's one of that main reason they make those laws that way. People think it looks cool but then don't realize how hard it is to see at night. Why should insurance companies pay for accidents caused by limited vision just b/c the person purchased tint that was too dark? Also, the fact that the cop feels uneasy walking up to a car with pitch black tint. I've got 35 on mine all around and 40 on my whole front (5 on my roof) and it has a nice gloss to it that makes it seem darker. No need for really dark tint though IMO.

The chrome tint actually looks pretty good on the black cherry paint.

oh one question to anyone that can answer...

it says that for the california tinting laws, 70% of the light must go through for the front side windows...so if i took my car to get tinted, what do i ask for? 30% tint?

just ask for the legal limit for ur tints.. which i thought were 20% at first.. but i found out it was 35%. so its all good it worked out in the end.. i gots 35% fronts and 5%backs..

tints cannot be reflectors.. if u know what i mean.. like chrome looking..

Tint is measure by the amount of light it lets pass through. If you buy 20% tint, then only 20% gets through. If you have to let 70% get through, then you might as well just skip trying to tint if you want to follow the rules. It would be like nothing there. I have my front windshield tinted 50% and you can berely tell its tinted unless you were looking for it. 35% is normally a safe bet. Its dark enough to notice its tinted but not so dark that the cops mess with you.

The tC's front side windows are already slightly tinted. About 75% from the factory. You're not going to be able to put on any tint legally on the front sides.

ahh yeah that's so damn annoying! with 5% are you still able to see through it clearly? i've heard some people making it too dark and then it's difficult to see

5% is nice during the day and great for bright headlights at night, but you're going to hate backing up in a dark area.

I had 5% all the way around. The only problem is at night and backing up, just roll the window down.

So if you get pulled over for having ur tint too dark what happens? Just wondering cuz i want 5% on back and 20% on front, legal limit in texas is 25% so i want to go a little darker. do you just get a fine, do u have to get it removed, do they check up on u?

Don't know about TX, but in MD you get an inspection ticket and have 30 days to have it removed and signed off on by a cop. I know Armygirl up in NY got fined for her tint. I think it depends on the state and the cop.
