personally i would just get a different knob the knob looks like it is too short, your other option is get a aftermarket boot, you can find them all over the place

You can put a small spring around the shaft under the collar of the boot that will allow for some fluctuation in height but also keep the boot tight up against your shift knob. If you're asking how to remove the housing around the shifter, just pull it. The entire interior of our cars is just help together with pressure clips.

Remove the shift housing? TRD made a great DIY on this:

After you do that you can adjust the hieight of the boot so it meets your shift nob.

^^like mayo posted OR you could just...

unscrew the knob.

run your hands down the two silver runners of the trim.

around were your cig lighter is you will see a line

grasp both runners and pull up slowly but surely(just enough to pop the clips out)

now run your hands down to were the silver runners end.

pull "back and up"(on the runners) slowly but surely just enough to pop them loose.

now lift the whole thing up "CAREFULLY" or you are going to scratch the crap out of your center console.

and do what you gotta do...

(Hmm...sounds kinda like pulling a girls pants off...)

wow that was more intense than that one time I forgot how to sit down...
