Is it possible to have the administrator of this site allow access to the users to change this information.

It is expected that the user knows his/her own year and provide the correct year and make/model before committing to adding more details to the car. Since the year, make, and model usually never changes throughout the life of a car, I see no reason to allow users to change this information.

This is not to say I won't implement year changing option, but I just don't see any reason to allow a user the ability to constantly change the year of their car.

Sorry for asking for a change. The last time checked I'm human and made a mistake when creating the account. The solution seems that I'll have to create a new account to correct this error. Thanks for the help.

You will have to make a new account… But peace of mind should be worth the incontinence.

It's not a defect. I just chose not to allow users to change this information. If I add in the ability to change a year on a vehicle, users are going to ask to change their make and model on their cars, which really doesn't appeal to me because those three things do not change in the real world.

Sure, we all are human here, but I shouldn't have to throw in features to account for ALL possible mistakes and errors provided by user input.

At work I call it "DUMBING IT DOWN". I don't agree, but I do respect your idea. Why would they ask if they have the ability to change this field.

At work, I call this lack of feature "AS DESIGNED" and "TO SPEC".

Users in the future will ask 'why can we change years but not model or make' and will most likely tell me it should be an option since they chose something wrong.

I've had a few discussions with other folks assisting in the design in the newer site and have all agreed that year should not be changed due to preserving major data on vehicles in a garage. User-created vehicles in the newer site may be showcased based on user ratings and other criteria, and year, make, and model of a vehicle will play a role in this. Allowing the user to change any three of those things on a vehicle may affect this idea and the integrity of historical data on a vehicle. Upon viewing sites like CarDomain.com, they also do not allow manipulating the year, make, or model of a vehicle outside of initially creating it. I'm sure their reasonings are quite similar to mine.

I really don't want to make it out like I'm arguing with you over such a minuscule feature like this, but it appears you are getting upset over my explanations, all of which are justifications of why I do not wish this to be an option.

I don't think that you are "arguing " or am I, and I respect your point of view. Thank you for your explanation as I did not fully understand this enigma.
