Scion Guru

Well me and my buddy Chris installed my TRD Rear Sway Bar yeterday. It was a pretty easy install just a few bolts to take off then put back on with the new sway bar.All you gotta do is raise the car in the rear (i used stock jack) just high enough so you can get under the rear of your car. I installed it on the stiffest setting which is the inner hole which is considered the "race" setting and the outter whole is considered the "street" setting. After tightening down all the bolts I lowered the car and youll notice your car will be a little higher in the back due to your car being lifed but it will just need to settle again... So me and my buddy went on a little cruise to test it out to see if i notice a difference. I took one of those curvey on ramps to the freeway at a decent speed with no problems noticed the handling greatly! It was like a night and day difference! I also went on a little mountain road with a few windy turns and the car handled great... just would reccomend grippier tires! Stockies SUCK! haha... But this sway bar is great and i love it!

Rate 1-10: 9
Difficulty 1-10: 2/3
Installation time: about 20 minutes

rear sway bar all the way for sure. i got teh TRD rear sway bar and high speed cornering was greatly improved. the charactoristics of the rear sway bar being its more stiff is to make the rear end of the car a little bit more lose so to minimize understeer meaning the cars tendencies to want to go straight through a turn.

so after i installed it, at the time, i had the TRD sway bar and eiboch lowering springs, 1.2 inch drop all the way around or something like that, not much. my budies tC has Tein s-tech springs, light weight racing wheels with nice tires, front strut tower bar and rear strut tower bar. no sway bar upgrades

we were both going to an on ramp and were both going to punch it through there, a long long semi fast on ramp onto a highway. i was in front and punched it. glancing to my rear view mirror, i noticed i was pulling away more and more! the gap went from a couple of feet to about 2 cars by the end of the on ramp.

after we got to talk about it, he said he had to let go of the gas a bit through the turn because his car was giving up on him, wanting to go straight/ understeering while i was trying to push it harder and harder through the turn.

great stuff with the rear sway bar for those who love to take turns

Good review, I think I may go with TRD but will find an outlet; the dealer just charges too darn much!

only thing with the sway bar is you gotta be a little careful when taking them turns at full speed cause when ur on the gas, the car will make you feel like you can go faster and faster, not losing grip, but the split second you let go of the gas, the rear end gets real unhappy. unsettled

don't get me wrong, with that sway bar, you can smoke any tC around the corners with similar tires if you have the aftermarket sway bar, but just be cautious when letting go of that accelerator cause a tad bit of counter steering will be required (don't ask me how i know this lol)

Thanks for the review. I recently ordered a TRD Sway bar. You said it was pretty easy to install? About how long should it take?

It took me a about 40 min to install. That's about average. Overall it's a pretty easy install. I could recommend unbolting the rear section of the exhaust to make sliding the sway into place a lot easier.

This mod was by far the most significant suspension upgrade I've ever done, especially with how top heavy the tC is.

This may be a bit off topic but would the Front strut bar be worth purchasing as well? Would there be any noticeable difference in handling ?

El Chupacabra

Just installed my TRD rear swaybar and it made a hell of a difference! The car felt substantially more stable during turns and the suspension feels a lot stiffer. Haven't really gotten a chance to test it out but I'll add a follow-up later on

Installation was a pain though.. Mainly cuz I did it without removing my axleback Which hole is the race setting? I used the inner holes to bolt those end thingies together to.
