You could do that, but its not as clean of an install. The piece is less then a dollar, lol.

okay thanks alot, and does anyone know how to put the dome lights back up using both sides of the clips?

Sorry, missed oyur other question. Mine just popped back in. Did you pull the clips out of the roof, or did they pop out of the housing when you removed it?

the white hive looking things are still in the roof. everything else came off

You need to pull those out of the roof and clip them back into the dome light before you try to put it back in. If you don't have a panel puller, just use a set of needlenose pliers. Those little white clips were supposed to come out with the dome light, but sometimes they are a little stubborn. I had the same issue with mine. The clip on the left side didn't come out with the fixture and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the damn thing back in, lol.

I know, bump from the dead..but I have a question...
I drive a Camry, I dont have a moonroof, my dome light has just 2 wires
would I be able to use the power from the light wires to hardwire the detector?

EDIT: I have a Cobra

As long as you tap into the constant hot wire and not the wire that requires you to push the light on to be activated. Find the main wire leading to the lights (which probably splits) and tap into that main wire.

I think there 3 wires altogether and dont know which ones are which! theres 2 lights in the dome, I will take some pics later

That would have been a pain to run the wire due to the panels you have to remove. Glad this helped.
