It is possible to buy a axle back exhaust (say the TRD) and then later buy a midpipe (megan racing) and even a s pipe. (this is what i plan on doing when i get the money ^_^ goin for a deep tone)

And yes it is ok to mix and match some brands. Just be careful about fit and placement and that the exhaust parts you buy can bolt together (make sure the flanges match/or are the same type)

The only thing is if you go full costume (up to the headers) and you want your car to pass emissions make sure you have a cat on your exhaust. That would suck to spend all that money and then not be able to drive your car (leagally) bc you didnt pass your inspection. Ive seen this happen to many times and people not have enough money to have a cat welded on.

hope this helps some people

^You can pass EMISSIONS without a CAT (if you use the O2 sensor bypass or CEL fix) but you will not pass INSPECTION. Just wanted to clear that emission part up from your post...

I'm glad we are getting some new users that actually know a bit about cars. Nice post. (*not being sarcastic either)

Complaining is futile when you supported the victory.

so i have a question...Im planning on getting a greddy ti-c catback in the near future along with dc headers. If I installed this stuff I would still have my catalytic converter right? In other words what can I all do to my exhaust but still have the catalytic converter?

^ If you get the DC sports header, you'll lose the catylitic converter in your stock header. You do have a secondary one before your midpipe though.

so in other words if i get an aftermarket header i wont be legal since it deletes the othe cat...well what can i do then exhaust system wise for better performance? I was thinking of getting a greddy ti-c but apparently thats only a rear section cat-back, how is that any diff from a regular catback or an axle back?

I am noon at engine parts so I have a question, which part of the exhaust give you the sound, is it the header? Please explain because I am getting a Trd exhaust but not sure how it work.

^ TRD axle back sounds awesome, you'll love it! The axleback is the main portion that contributes to sound. A header will too, but a header on a TRD axleback sounds like absolute crap.

The tuned sound that you are looking for mostly comes from the axleback. Atleast for our cars.

Well, I think the legality and whether you can get away with it or not depends on the state, but you will definitely fail a smog test.

If you want to get other performance exhaust parts, try getting a midpipe. You're already getting an axleback, so a midpipe attached to that will free up a couple horses. (sadly the axleback alone does just about nothing for performance)

wow this is an amazing post with a lot of great questions being asked and i thought i would chime in since i have a good amount of experience (been through 6 axlebacks) and header, s-pipe, and mid-pipe!

ok since most are asking ill try to cover a few things

Header- Seriously unless you plan on dumping money on an exhaust system DO NOT buy a header. imo, its a waste of money... why you might ask? the reason i feel this way is because, your spending 2-300 on a header for mostly the added horsepower. Well the down side is that its not noticible HP and it will make the exhaust sound raspy as heck. Some axlebacks can tone down this rasp but its mainly un-avoidable. The only thing the header adds is visual "bling". If you cant stand the rasp of the header then your going to have to dump even more money to get a resonator welded in which in the end is a whole lot more money and time for just 5-10 HP!

s-pipe- im iffy on an s-pipe. i believe again its a 1-200 down the drain. it adds no visual effect, no noticible hp gains, barely any sound difference, so whats the point. well the only reason to buy an s-pipe is if you get a header, the s-pipe is one of the bottlenecks of the exhaust system so it would be better to get it if your going with a full exhaust

Midpipe- I would highly recommend getting a mid-pipe!!! a midpipe deletes a cat but can still pass emissions. its relativly cheap (like MAYOS mom) haha and it really adds a great sound to the exhaust and frees a few ponies

axelback- again highly recomend getting an axleback. heres the thing, people's perception is that you get what you pay for. Honestly yes, fitment and qulaity can be comprimised but as far as sound, expensive does not mean it sounds good. ive heard a cheap tsudo N1 axleback before and it sounds much better than the greedy sp2 (double the price!)!

now again almost any aftermarket exhaust will bolt right together to any other part of the exhaust. the only exception is that the MMW 4-2-1 header needs the MMW s-pipe to bolt on to the mid-pipe.

What to buy or what i recommend!
You have already heard a lot of videos but honestly, videos dont do sound justice.

TRD- since a lot of people asked about the TRS...ive heard it and had it! sound quality is a nice little rumble but if kind of has a monotone sound which can sound cheap. its not personally my taste but others love it! this exhaust is terrible with a header though and i stronly discourage using it with a header!

I strongly reccomend
oe look - MAGNAFLOW and a cheap exhaust named precsion muffler both sound amazing even with a header

straight out look- TANABE concept G in all honesty i didnt know why everyone used to tell me to get it but its the closest thing to a subaru sound if you add a midpipe

angled or "jdm" look- hks hi-power imo is amazing but you can achive a similar sound using a tsudo N1 from ebay or an SRS from ebay but the SRS is poor quality.

To sum it up- do your research, if you have any questions, feel free to ask and ill be honest and helpful as possible!
