Hello users of the internet,

This thread is going to be important. Important for me at least.

Post all of your requests for the new forum system in this thread. Post everything you dislike about this current forum system (it's ok, I can take a lot of criticism!). I'm trying to compress every request for each major feature in one thread so that I can easily mark it off the todo list as I get to each thing.

I will edit each of your posts with my own comments so that I don't clutter the thread with my own responses. You are free to post as much as you want here, and can request anything that is appropriate for the new FORUMS and FORUMS only. The forums play a BIG part of this site, and I want it to play just as large of a part in the rewritten site!

PLEASE do not derail this thread just like my other threads get derailed. I really hate it when that happens. If someone attempts to derail this thread with something that is NOT RELATED TO THIS CURRENT FORUM OR THE NEW ONES, I will get angry and do something mean. I am a mean and angry guy.

Thanks, and I appreciate all your criticism and feedback!

My suggestions:

1) Make the Recent Thread Activity list slightly longer
2) Create separate buyers guide threads like they did on SL, and the mods can keep updating with information people send in.
3) Make the IMG button permanently into TIMG

mike's comments:

1) I can make this paginated (maybe latest 250 threads, 10 pages w/ 25 threads a piece)
2) I'll check out buyer guides on SL.
3) This is a good idea. The new forums will be designed so that if a post does contain a large image, only that post will be stretched.

Good suggestions.

easier way to navigate. thats a big thing. its kind of annoying haveing to click on forums and then click on exterior styling, or mobile electronics. maybe if we could have like a drop down menu when the cursor goes over the link to forums and then it would show the forums. then maybe a direct link to the home page at the bottom of the thread so you don't have to go all the way back up and click on home.

mike's comments:

I agree, and this will be my primary focus with the new forums. The pagination REALLY needs overhauling because I dislike the boring list of page numbers. A last page option would be nice on the thread itself, as well as on the thread row in each forum (if there are multiple pages). The forum thread list will also have links to the first 3 pages of the thread, and the last 3 pages of the thread, with a quick link to the last page of the thread.

The taxonomy of the forums (Home > ClubSciontC Forums > etc) will be on the top and bottom of the thread, as well as the forum list for easier navigation.

There are tons of other ways I can improve navigation as well, and I'm sure I'll do some research on other popular forums to include them

Thanks for the requests.

i think when you click on the username on the front page, it should take you to the last post in that thread. or maybe a series of links next to the title so that we can choose the page we want to go to

mikes comments:

The front page will be completely different in the new site, and may or may not include threads on the front page. As mentioned previously above, last page links will be added almost everywhere a thread link is displayed. This is an option I personally want.

how about on the mainpage or forum pages, instead of having to go into the topic to select pages, u can select it b4 going in.

mike's comments:

The only issue with this is clutter. I will have a few page links listed under each thread link, and a convenience option to jump to the last page. A thread with a ton of pages will require you to click the thread link and pick a page, or if the thread has around 5 pages, you can click the page number below the thread link. The only real useful option is to click a 'last page' link for threads.

Seems like the last page / page selections is the most wanted feature right now. Navigation is definitely going to improve.

For the "Latest Thread Activity" column, have the newest thread be highlighted in red or some other color to contrast the site and allow the users to click a section to go directly to the end of the thread for the latest comment.

can you make it so all posts that haven't been active for a long time are automatically locked, and an automatic final post says "Start a new thread if you have any questions or concerns."

Attempting to post to a thread that is X days old will actually result in a confirmation letting the user know that the thread is very old, and upon replying, may result in some ridicule/consequences. This will solve that problem.

thats what your ranking is for. I don't know how many posts equal what rank, but it should be one or the other. I personally prefer the ranking system over the number.

and i disagree this isnt myspace this is a car forum we do mess around and joke around alot but theres not need to take up extra space on the bandwith to make it more myspace-y.
(if i worded that wrong sorry im not a comp geek )

and my two cents:
i think it would be cool if u could select one persons comment and anothers to double quote instead of having to copy and paste type of thing.
thats it

a car is a girls toy too ;]

I purposefully removed post count a few months ago. If you actually care about the number of posts you made, then you are on the wrong forum.

This thread is about the new forums. I'll be sure to create a profile related thread in the near future so that you can request those things in that thread.

If you can find me an example on another forum out there that does this, I'd be happy to implement something like this.
