Before I buy a short shifter...

Okay so I'm about to buy a new short shifter (like...today) and I don't know what to do My old car (turbo Mr2) had a short shifter that was already installed when I got it and it was a very short throw but it shifted very smoothly and it took almost no effort to put it in gear. However, I drove Walter's car this weekend (tc_by_trd) and his short shifter is also very short but VERY stiff and difficult to get into gear. Now, I know that the shorter it is, the more stiff it will become... but I really don't want one like Walter's. haha. (sorry!) So I'm debating between the TWM Stage 2 and the Perrin SS because with the Perrin I'm thinking that if I don't like how it is, I can just adjust it, but the TWM is cheaper haha. What do you guys think??

TWM Stage 2 would be nice and stiff. Or............just ask him what he has and get the one he's got

I have K2 Motors but it's not really low..........it's only 1.5" lower but the throw is reduced a great deal (close to 35-40% but not exactly sure). All gears are easy to find and engage for me

I was considering the K2 one a while ago.... hmm... maybe I'll add that one back to the list. Which doesn't help because now I have the K2, TWM, and the Perrin. Oh boy!

nope he's got a Megan Racing one. He said he got used to the stiffness but I just don't think I would like it at all.

Was wondering the same thing... I PMed him and asked, he gave me a price but he never gave me a time frame or anything. I wanted to install it this weekend.

Doctor Isotope's custom short shifters! After switching from a K2motor short shifter, I don't think I'd change this one out for anything. Very short knob height (2.5 inch drop from stock), and the throw is amazingly short. His custom delrin knobs (that you can get with his packages) are also nice. Doc-I's short shifters ftw.

Hello guys I am new here and am looking for friends

I love my K2motor SS easy install and the performance is awesome. The lever isn't lowered by much but the shifts are so much better over stock. SO much better! Definitely a must buy if you prefer longer shifters over stubby ones like TWM stage 2

well I'm looking for a considerable reduction in the throw... so I guess a longer shift wouldn't be a very good fit for me. BUT is it a smoother shift? That quality rules over all for me.

A long shaft actually means you'll have more leverage to shift faster. The reduction is achieved by the overall pivot position change and the angle of the base of the shaft connecting to the shift cables. You can have a 4 foot tall shifter and still have a short shift......Height means nothing, it's just for looks.

K2motors and Doc's shifters have the highest reduction in throw among all other brands and also come with their own shifter assemblies. While the shorter lever may look cooler, I think the short-shifter would benefit more from a modestly sized lever. K2motors' quality is top-notch and I haven't heard anyone on this site complain about their product as of yet :o GET IT!

yes, well, I'm not so interested in a short lever... in case I haven't mentioned it, I just want a smooth shift haha. That's what I'm most interested in.

Transmission fluid swap to a good synthetic (Amsoil, Redline...) and a K2 are a great combo for smooth shifting

hmm really? But what about the perrin? It's completely adjustable so I'm thinking that if I don't like it, I could change it. I'm really picky and if I invest in it, I want to like it a lot.

What's the throw reduction on Perrin? Can't be more than the K2. :o

If you want adjustability, then go with Perrin. But, a transmission fluid swap is what I suggest no matter what shifter you choose.
