Hey, I got a 12inch alpine sub 2 weeks after i bought my scion tc... ive had the sub for 3 months now and use it everyday. Now my car rattles like crazy when have no music on and its quiet. I hear it from my moonroof, the back and the windows.... Is this caused by the subs I-ve also read alot about other peoples complaints about rattleing, but i was just wondering if the sub contributes to the rattling after a while and may cause things to loosen

i like to impress the neighborhood also. i have a comp 15 ma audio that hits HARD. i have noticed a lil- extra rattling so i am goin through the whole car and dynamating it and making sure everything is tight. This car has like no insulation from the factory so i will also get less road noise too May make my car a tad heavier but i like nice clean crisp music and if thats what it takes, so be it. Plus it is kind of embarrassing when you can hear rattles outside of cars. i hate that so much!

Well, compared to any car in the same price range tC is soundproofed to the ears. Try Mazda3 - that-s a real tin can. Same with Corolla and Matrix - I spent two days dynomatting the Matrix to get it somewhere close to where the tC is stock.

I agree ...I have to say this is one of the best soundproofed cars from the factory that I-ve ever seen. I-ve been bumping 1000 watts into two 10-s for about a month now and have not noticed any increase in rattles inside the car. The only rattle outside the car is the license plate.

IMO, even if u dynomat the sides and what not..u-ll still run into the problem of the moonroof rattling. turn down the bass a lil before u end up deaf! and just maybe that-ll help with the rattling.

^^^ My buddy (35yo, long-term car enthusiast, owned his sound shop in Cali in late 80-s, early 90-s), had his physical couple of weeks ago - 33% hearing one ear, 50% another - thanks to the good bass that he always had in his cars. Just something to think about.

Actually, it-s not the loud low bass frequencies that do your ears in, it-s high decibal, High Frequency sound that will make you deaf.

i agree, i used to be in a band... i play bass guitar and can sit in front of my stack for days without too much effect, but the highs from guitar and cymbals killed my ears. plus, ive heard of a study where long-term exposure to bass can do a lot of damage to your eyes....basically you are rattling the optic nerve off the back of your eyeball.

Thats not a big deal.. flying in helicopters like I do now for work is getting me that way.. I can barely pass my hearing test every year when I have to take it..Chronic!~~

lower frequnecies can kill your eyes also just as fast as high frequencies. just take the time and go to a local sound compettion, and sit in a car thats does atleast 150db. listening to 110db for a long exposure of time can harm your hearing. Most high powered sound systems push along the 120-130db levels. Very few have systems that push in the 140-s and 150-s on a termlab mic. Like i said sit in a car that pushes 150db. It will feel like you cant breathe, so imgaine what is happening to your ears.

ok for all those with rattles, one word.....Sound damping! i like dynamat, mainly casue i get it dirt cheep, but it does work, got half my scion done in it and as proof it works i was at a sound comp this last weekend, my friends car (no dynamat) with the spl meter in his car was 117 db and in my car (50%+ dynamated) mine read a 110 db thats no music playing just in the car, i ended up 2nd in the comp cause my sub blew but i got a top hit of 141.6 db with my single 12, so dynamat works and helps tones, the only rattles i have are that damn spoiler i bought and the hatch cause it is not dynamated ...yet

i'll tell you the average db hit is in the 130's, and i got 141.6 with my single 12 L7 kicker at a db drag even just this weekend and i sat in the car and yeah it was loud as shit in there but thats half the fun, yeah it cause's damage to the ears but if you take precautions you will be fine, get some ear plugs and crank it it up!
