Review:

I have had this detector for almost 2 weeks now and it already has save me from 4 Ka detections. But I'll get to that in a bit...

Mounting of this detector is very easy and adjustable. It has 3 click mount positions on the single suction cup plate that allows for a slighting different angle of detection depending upon your windshield angle. It isn't the lightest detector, but it's not heavy either. The good thing though, as compared to many detectors, the way it sits on the mount it sits right against the glass so it doesn't shake or bounce around. Most detectors sit off the mounts a bit and don't contact the glass, which causes them to bounce around a lot.

The AUTOSCAN feature on this is GREAT!. I have had almost NO false alarms and minimal X band alert (automatic doors in my area...NJ is the only state that uses X band for police band still.) Autoscan uses a constant scan/processing function that determines the type of band, it's constant frequency, and if it should become an alert for the driver. Highway is a great feature to use if you're on LONG, OPEN stretches of highway where laser and Ka are most likely going to be used (longest frequency and travel of all bands). City has an option to eliminate all X band detection, or minimze them. I don't use City and just leave it in AUTOSCAN (as suggested by Beltronics in their manual) and I'm ok with that.

It has picked up 2 laser detections from around the corner of a curve!....I never knew that was possible but it must have picked up the deflection of a laser off another car. Almost always, lasers are so direct that they don't have much scatter at all. These 2 times (2 different locations), it picked them up and right around the corner about 100 yards away was a trooper standing their with his LIDAR gun.

2 long range, highway Ka bands were picked up from close to 1 mile off in the distance. One was driving on the opposing side of the road and the other was stand still. That gave me WAY more than enough time to slow down. The other 2 were hidden Ka bands on back roads. One cop was backed into a driveway and hit me from about 1/4 mile away (minimal detection but Ka is ALWAYS a cop band) so I slowed down and saw him as I passed. The other was a trooper following me from about 10-15 car lengths back and popped his Ka on and I went to full alert.

All and all, the true test will be in 2 weeks heading down to Ocean City. Troopers ALWAYS have laser speed traps setup and you can easily get hit about 8-10 times in the span of 2 hours/127 miles. As for right now......

On a scale of 1-10: 9

Mounted low for best Laser detection:

good review, does that radar detector have 360 degree detection?

Yup.........laser and radar 360. The little black top right corner is the rear and side detector.

Next step for me are laser jammers .........M20 jammers......EDIT.....check Hvtopiwala's post

RADAR jammers are illegal b/c they screw up CB radios as well. LIDAR jammers are legal b/c they don't interupt any communication signals and work simply on IR frequency.

Thats what i though, btw just to let you know, you should have that sitting up a little higher on the window, a lot of people make that mistake, 360 degree radar is not ass effiecient if you have it set so low on the windshield. it should to be like half way up the windshield (between the dash and the rearview mirror) in order to pick up all the surrounding radar. Just giving you a heads up it will work 10x better. Give it a try.

I tried that from the start but moved it lower. My Cobra worked good that way but I lowered it and ended up picking up more rear radar that way. Not sure why but I think my tint has to be the reason. May depend on how the beam is deflected on my car but it picks up more lower than near the middle.

Laser jammers pick up laser frequencies and send back an overload IR (infra red) pulse back to the LIDAR gun confusing it. The overload of IR will cause the gun to jam and the cop has to reset it for a new shot.........giving you critical seconds to slow down.

Oh..............haha...............oh well...................I travel in o of them states and try to stay away from VA just b/c 95 is a pain in that it travels through the WIDEST part of it. I still used my Cobra through it and never got popped.

interesting. it could be beacuse of the angle of your rear window. You guys have some sort of 'factory' tint crap on the upper portion of the rear window correct? that could have been blocking it.

The tC comes with "solar tint"......haha, a joke more than anything. It barely dims when hit with sunlight but still deflects light in a weird way (when you get down to frequencies of the waves).

I'll take a clearer picture in a while but that's one from when I hit a bump and clicked the phone......haha

I just kept my hand on the power plug and as soon as I got popped, i unplugged it ...........too quick for them to get a reading b/c RDD (radar detector detectors) are slower than radar to pick up frequencies

ah actually i remember seeing that on my buddies tC. looks almost like a grid of imperfections in the glass.

OOOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........that's the dot matrix...........your cobalt has that in the upper portion of the rear windshield as well (a common annoyance for your crew with tinting b/c people hate tinting over it and leave it bare).

That's also in the front of ours but only on the edges. Yeah, that will block radar detection as well as the blue tint that some windshields come with on the front (measured by the AS1 line). Not sure why some people mount there's so high right next to the rear view mirror..........does nothing good for detection...for the most part........nothing for laser.
