So my main concern is that I am going to install a turbo kit get the power etc... And I will find out that my car can't pass the Virginia Emissions. Meaning I cant drive it in Virginia. I am of course looking for a daily driver upgrade that will pass emissions and still provide a decent return in power for my investment. Anyone in the Northern Virginia area upgrade their car and pass emissions and state inspection? |

If VA requires state inspections, you will NOT pass. If it doesn't, as long as your CEL is not on, you will pass emissions. ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. |

if you go past stage 0 on the turbo, you will start having problems I bet. I'm registered in Wisconsin for now (registering in Illinois soon) and they both have emissions testing. However, as long as you leave the catalytic converter in, and don't mess with the O2 sensors, you most likely will not have a problem. If anything you should write an email to the manufacturer of the kit and ask how it will affect emissions. They should have some good numbers. ![]() |

Even if you go past stage 0, if your CEL does not come on, you will not fail emissions. INSPECTION is what you will fail, but NOT emissions. You can leave the CAT on for inspection purposes but all you need is a wide band O2 with the turbo kit to compensate for the increased exhaust flow and the CEL won't come on (a few other parts as well, but wideband for the exhaust system). You are going to HAVE to get new O2 sensors (not sure for the front, but definately the rear) when you get a turbo b/c of the increased exhaust flow. You can also get an electronic/manual exhaust cutout/dump at the base of the header or end of the spipe so that for race days, you don't have to worry about emission restictive exhaust piping and you can run an open dump (best thing for turbos b/c there's NO restriction. ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. |

So http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Safety.shtm#InspectionProgram which the main thing that caught my eye was 14. – INSPECT EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR: * Exhaust line-manifold, gaskets, pipes, mufflers, connections, etc. * Leakage of gases at any point from motor to point discharged from system. So looks like the best I will be able to do is a supercharger and some minor performance...? Obviously a turbo will kick me beyond that point so any suggestions for what I should maybe do after I get a TRD supercharger?? I have a guy who asked me if I wanted to buy a supercharger with intake and the new bypass valve so what else can I legally do and improve performance? |

Not necessarily. The turbo kit will come with a new manifold...your exhaust piping will be nice and sealed......you will have a CAT (if you're smart about the inspection) prior to your rear O2 sensor............it's technically all there............I'd call the state emissions place and talk to people there. They'd be able to help you more. ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. |
