![]() ![]() These cars are twins and they're rated Car and Driver's top 5 fastest cars for under 20,000 dollars. ![]() ^Those are the specs for the Pontiac G5 GT ![]() ^Specs for the Chevrolet Cobalt SS (non-supercharged) If your car is stock, you may think twice before you egg one on, it's a very even matchup. |

In my opinion the cobalt, G5, and Ion are the worst made American car at the moment. I love GM but despise this line. Everybody I know has sooo many problems with them and I am getting tired of fixing them for my buds. Plain and simple...POS. American automakers still havent found the "nitch" for a affordable economy four banger. If you buy american stay with the V6's & V8's. Also go drive one. The handling and ride makes you feel caution and alert cause you feel dangered. I find the acceleration sluggish and the seats are so uncomfortable. I am just not a big fan at all and I can go on with some negative criticism. If you want an import buy an import not a cheap imposter. I must say that as far as looks go, i'm not at all impressed with the G5, i'd just assume buy a cobalt than get the G5, the only difference is its got different taillights and a pontiac logo. I havent heard much bad stuff about the cars except that the crash test produced some iffy results. ![]() |

Well, I agree with you on some points. If you're an American buyer, more power to you, but even when you look at the v6 Chevy Impala, it's rated 211hp? (2007 3.5L) That's crap. Don't get me wrong, I love American muscle. I think the Corvette can give any foreign sports car a run for the money at half the cost. You're right though, America can't do a 4cyl right. It's the reason the big 3 is so big. Honda, Toyota, Nissan. |

I agree with the point on V6's and their power outputs for the American lines (e.g. the malibu and impala) but was more saying they are well built engines with really no problems in reliability or maintainence. The "ECOTECH" line of engines belong only one place.....a junk yard. Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Ben Franklin |

The only american car i want is the NEW GTO 6.1 V8... A sport Compact with V8 i don't care if turboed TC's can beat it. wow that was more intense than that one time I forgot how to sit down... |

When it comes to American muscle, i'm more into the older stuff. Don't get me wrong the new GTO is sweet, as well as the new camaro that there is the whole fuss about. But i'd much rather have something like an old 67-69 GTO if its a 68 or a 69 I want the carousel red with "The Judge" bages lol. Or a 69 camaro. After driving our 61 corvette, with no power steering and no power brakes, id have to have something a little newer lol that thing was a pain in the A$$ to drive. Maybe something like a 67 with the 427 ![]() |

Well the GTO is no longer made....yes I cried 2 but its supposed to be back in 2010!!! My brother has the '04 with the LS1 pushing 350 whp and its fuckin awesome!! Love that car and its sooo fast! I wouldnt say a turboed tC can beat it. Did you see that video of an '04 stock GTO smoking a Skyline GTR?? Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Ben Franklin |

Dude, if you want a real classic GTO there is only one. The judge is cool but not the best. 1964 Pontiac LeMans GTO Edition with the 389 cubic inch three duece beast. I wet my pants thinking about it! The one, the only, THE original muscle car! Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Ben Franklin |

yeah thats a real nice one. I used to think only about american muscle when i was younger. All i wanted was a beast with a V8 under the hood. Price speaks wonders though and I've slid into different settings now and while I still love american muscle, imports have that spot in my heart as well. My dad has a friend who has a 67 Lemans, its white with 2 gold stripes and a tan roof. Absolutly beautiful. I remember the first time i saw it all I did was just sit there and stare at it. It was drop dead gorgous. ![]() |

Thats the thing thought, small turboed engines have "cheapened" HP now every one is like 250HP pfft thas nothin. when back in the days a 3.5 putting out that much was like sweet! Theres nothing like a V8 nothing not even those V10 and V12<<please a bunch of tyni cylinders. but you gotta give props to honda 2.0 = 197hp N/A thats pretty cool. wow that was more intense than that one time I forgot how to sit down... |

I owned nothing but V8's until I got my focus. The gas prices killed that dream......for awhile though Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Ben Franklin |

Unfortunatly, I dont believe gas will ever be cheap again. The Oil Companies and the Gas companies are making too much money now to let the prices drop to a cheaper price again. ![]() |

Ouch! Harsh words guys haha. The 2.4L ecotec is far from a piece of junk. I've never heard anyone having serious issues with any ecotec engine with the exception of people using aftermarket tuning or modding without proper experience. I've been the proud owner of a cobalt ss 2.4L for well over a year now and i've had not one problem with it. For a 2.4L naturally aspirated 4 cylinder engine, you cant really ask for more, delivering about 175hp and 163tq. Leather Seats, Sunroof, Mp3/Aux CD Player, 7 speaker pioneer sound system, 17inch polished rims, Front and rear ABS disk breaks, and an overall clean looking, unique car, all for about the same cost of a scion tC, there really isnt much more you can ask for. Where the cobalt ss 2.4 really hurts, is in the aftermarket support division, being that the 2.4 is the rarest of the 3 cobalt models. ![]() Car Domain |

The SS starts at $18,900. Thats a bit more than the tC. With air bags and everything I got a price of $20,045.00 from the web site....ouch!!! Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Ben Franklin |

yeah thats not accurate at all though. You can actually get the supercharged models for less than 20k brand new. I paid about 16 for mine ![]() Car Domain |

Oh man, that cobalt looks amazing. But damn, how do they squeeze 173hp out of that engine? ![]() "gonna wash my car before i take a nap.. can't rest well knowing i've got the entire cast of A Bug's Life on my bumper" - Vicious -- Want to post a "For Sale" thread? Check out the rules first. |
