something i've noticed with my car, it seems like it likes to go into 2nd as soon as it starts moving, I get better acceleration when i shift right away into second rather than bringing th RPM's up in first then shifting. For normal driving only of course, not if im laying into it. But has anyone noticed this with their tC too ? or is it just mine ?

Our first and second gear is extremely quick. It seems quicker if your rolling a bit to just throw it in second cause the transmission is pretty strong and we have that torque at low rpms. It also makes second gear alot longer.

Yea that's how I normally shift when I'm just driving regularly. I shift at around 2k.

ehhh.. you don't really need to really start in 1st gear if you guys really wanted to.

I have noticed this as well. First gear seems pretty short, and you dont have to be going all that fast to get it in second and go pretty quickly!

Carefull if you drive other cars...I work at Valet Parking, and after getting used to mine, on my first day I stalled on a new BMW trying to do the samething!!!! and I am a pretty experienced driver : /

Man, theres that whole thread of tips for launching, and there are still disputes. I hate 1st gear so much. Sometimes I just start in 2nd. And when I want to really launch. I bring 1st to about 3.5-4k and then shift to 2nd (to get in the peak torque range) and then start shifting at around 6k.

Ill tell you though 1st carries a punch for torque though if you lay into it even though its short. I decided to have some fun cause the road you turn onto once you get out of my development is long and straight and i rolled out stayed in first and mashed it around 2500 and damn its short but its quick and it will throw you back. I'm used to racing from a roll so it was kind of new for me lol

If you want to get moving good and quick, feather 1st a bit to prevent wheel slip and at about 5000 rpm shift into 2nd. This will limit any wheel chirp in 2nd and keep the pull of the engine down to the ground for the most part

i really dont agree with the first gear being short...ill take it to about 31ish...that is plenty. if any gear is short it is 2nd. 2nd gear will go to about 52...only an extra 20mph for the next gear is awful
