Been looking at clutch upgrades and came across the Exedy line for our car. I am not liking the stage II due to the three puck design. I see alot of mishifts in the future due to the clutch not engaging since I miss the pressure plate on contact. Well they offer a stage III which states it is for street and drag. It also says it eases the ability of the clutch pedal for use...this is nice. It's a 6 puck design and much more solid. Ok here is what I'm looking to get out of this thread. The stage III is a kit that comes with a moly-chrome lightweight flywheel. Anybody heard anything about this flywheel? Is it good or bad? I like the idea of buying the clutch kit and getting the flywheel in the bundle all at the same time. Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Ben Franklin |

Well..........you also have to look at what power range you will be needing it for. Honestly, how much power are you looking to get out of your tC? If you're looking for the drag car and maybe stage 2+ turbo, then a Stage III clutch/flywheel combo will be good and safe. But, if you're staying under 250 whp, a Stage I (Clutchmasters is great) is all you will need....maybe a Stage II just for safety and longer life. Stage III is going to be above and beyond the call of duty and don't be fooled by anything that says "retains comfortable driving" or whatever.......stage III will feel like you're doing leg presses every time you're shifting. It's almost the same in retrospect to a twin plate system. You're going to hate it unless it's track only. Puck clutches have a tendency to chip and break much easier than solid plate clutches as well. I'd stick to a Kevlar/Carbon steel based clutch disc with a Moly/Aluminum flywheel for strength/longer life/light weight. ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. http://clubsciontc.com/fo...-rims--5x100-pattern.html |

^x2, hate stage II clutches as it is, hard enough, stage III will give you one overly powerful left leg... |

Well I am going custom FI....so my power range is going to be up there. I know the hazards of a puck clutch...I have never used one so I want to check it out for my own to get an opinion and the stage III is a 6 puck design so the reliability factor is way up compared to the 3 puck design. I was originally planning on the clutchmasters stage II with a Fidanza flywheel but I may be able to get the Exedy stage III at a lower cost and thats why its in the mix. Oh I know the "left leg" effort that is needed. Ever driven a spring loaded clutch before in a 'vette? Now thats a workout! Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Ben Franklin |

Well........just fair warning that Stage III (even sprung clutches) are going to be a wear on your left leg. Good luck though with what you choose and keeps us updated ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. http://clubsciontc.com/fo...-rims--5x100-pattern.html |

I've driven a twin plate clutch in a 4x4 S-10........that clutch could take any amount of torque that engine could give it and still laugh. ![]() Complaining is futile when you supported the victory. http://clubsciontc.com/fo...-rims--5x100-pattern.html |

I will keep everybody updated on my final decision. I know I have to start doing some leg crunches to get ready but its the only way to get the power I want down to the wheels once I go FI. You have to pay to play! Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Ben Franklin |

had a 92 5.0 convertable with a saleen bodykit, four point roll cage(bar), dynoed at around 345 at one point and i too ran a stage III clutch, although i could never fully rid myself of issues while i had it on, pain in the ass and left me with a slight pain on my back when i walked for a while because of my big wallet... |

hey dude i dont know if your not FI or not but over kill in clutch is not a good idea, i got a spec stage I it handles 365wtq and man its a beast and so confortable to drive when not racing, man this thing takes a bottle of nitrous every saturday and a whole night or powershifting too lol and it feels jus like new, and no problems with over heatin or anything like that it gets a grip everytime. |

They only problem with the stage 2's I have been looking at is they are three puck designs which I don't like and have heard some horror stories and the stage 3 is a six puck design which is more robust and better for engaging also.
