THE SHADOW

So, I guess I'll do a review on these tires so far. It'll be short b/c I've only had 1 day with them on above 60 degrees.

First Look:
AMAZING! The tread is REALLY aggressive, the width (225) is much beefier than the stock 215mm Yokos I had.

Driving (Dry weather):
Pulling out of the driveway, I immediately noticed how sticky these tires were due to the fact that it sounded like I was driving over rice crispies with all the rocks sticking to the rubber. Getting on the main road, I felt the tires much more responsive on slow turn and also accelleration. While not being "heated" up yet, the tires still grabbed the road better than the Yokos.

After driving at a normal pace (35-40 mph) for about 5 miles, I took some back roads that allowed me to test the turning ability of the tires. Well, I was not surprised. They were MUCH better than stock. After about 4-5 turns that were posted at 25 and me taking them at 40ish, I could feel a bit better response in the steering wheel (seemed like they warmed up a bit). So, I begin to take some more aggressive turns and again, these tires just stick like glue. I have yet to chirp or squeal these tires while driving or taking a turn.

After I have put about 300 miles on these tires (just about 1 week), I can see them starting to become a bit better in response quicker. I feel much more confident in driving and taking turns a bit quicker now rather than backing off a bit just to stay in a "safe" speed range for the turn.

Accelleration is also increase a bit, but with an overall loss of about 2mpg. The extra grip leads to having the engine work a bit harder to get the car moving but, the sticky compound prevents wheel spin and extra loss of whp. Off the line, with a moderate accelleration, these tires just pull hard as balls. It's hard to chirp 2nd now and when I shift, the car just seems to want to hang on to the pavement and just keep pulling.

Braking in dry weather is no joke. These tires have decreased my braking distance a good bit and I don't have to put as much pressure into the brakes. You can hear these tires create a slight "wind tunnel" sound when accellerating and also while braking.

Driving (Wet weather):
Well, I just experience how these tires do in wet/down pour weather yesterday. Again, AMAZING!. I drove through multiple 2-3 inch puddles and the car never shifted. It cut right through and you could hear the water being thrown out from under the tires. With my stock Yokos, even new they seemed to not have enough water sipes to channel deep water out from under the tires. These g-forces never even felt a bit loose.

Accelleration on wet pavement is greatly increased as well. I felt a slightly slip off the start but I was also on a 40 degree incline in the rain. My Yokos tended to spin quite a bit off the start, but feathering the clutch helped. With the G-forces, I almost NEVER feather the clutch anymore b/c they just grab and go.

Braking in wet weather is also increased. The car seems to just want to stop rather than move forward and skate on the water. I just feel much safer driving with these tires in wet weather now.

Specs of the tires I am running:
P225/45/Z17
300 AA A
17" MB Wheels Boost

**edit: More updates will be available when the weather decides to fix itself ...

Del, feel free to add to this review if you would like.

I talked to a body shop owner who has a few friends with track cars (integras, mustangs, GTO (old ones)...) and they use these tires exclusively for racing. He said they stick like glue and don't fade.

How long do these tires last? If they're indeed uber sticky, they can't last that long compared to regular tires?

these are rated at a 300 treadwear and stock Yokos are 160. These are close to double and my stockers lasted 36K (and that's through summer and winter). Since these are strictly my summer tires, i'll have them through next summer also.

It's a slight bit warmer today (about 50-55ish) and just with a 5-10 degree temp difference from yesterday, these tires a noticeably stickier. I'll be in disbelief if these tires hold me on rails in the summer.....it's just such a good compound.

Grinning ear to ear right now .

I scared the shit out of myself just now too. Since it's about 50 and actually feels "warm" outside and it's dry, I went for a little drive before getting food. I had to take a turn but it was closed off so I got pissed off and sped to the next turn and gunned it. Hahahahaha, almost hit the inside curb b/c these tires hung on so damn good!

I also gunned it while rolling in 1st and punched 2nd and had 0 wheel chirp ....still smiling

I just experienced my first real wet day during a Nor'Easter up here in NY. These tires are "Magical" ahaha. Ridiculous. The last peice of my suspension work until I blow out my stock shocks. I went to a large driving circle down at Jones beach and shit I did not have to balls to break em loose. Being that they are summer tires and most of the temps I've been in are around 40's or low 50's I'm sure they'll perform even better once it warms up.

I'm runnin 225 40R18 hotchkis sways, springs, and links and a dc bar. Holy crap! Now i need more HP!

Had to lock them up this morning b/c this ass ran a red light. I was coming to the light at about 45-50 and had about 50 feet to stop b/c I saw him coming from the off ramp and not even slowing. ABS kicked in 1 time and the rest was the cross drilled brakes/ebc pads and my tires. I stopped with about 5 feet distance to the line. I like these tires

yeah, the KDW's def like the warmer weather. i can feel the improved grip with the warmth and now that some of the tread's been shaved down a bit (always a good thing)

they do pull pretty nice and strong in 2nd, with little to no slip at any rpm, and 3rd too.

i've also noticed i seem to have gotten a little torque back. idk why, but i got a tad more pickup than i had a few days ago when i was bitching. and i still think i have an exhaust leak somewhere (manifold/gasket)
