I want to smoke out my head and tail lights. I dig the look but not sure how to go about it and whats best. I'm an engine guy so styling how to's are new to me.

What's the best method for smoking your lights?

Are there any DIY for these methods?

How much is it going to cost me for good quality?

i smoked my tails using nightshades tint spray, wetsanding, and clear coat spray.

http://www.scionlife.com/...amp;highlight=nightshades

i started following these instructions but ended winging it myself. i needed to wetsand and clear coat more times than he did in the write up. im not doing my headlights cuz i dont want to reduce visibilty at night

For the headlights I recommend http://www.rockblocker.com

If you use paint on the heads, rocks and road debris will peal the paint off. For the tails, VHT Nightshade is fine.

The rockblocker vinyl is nice and thick and can absorb rock hits without scratching or chipping the housings.

I have the smoked rockblocker for my headlights (over the weekend got a ticket for having them on they look very dark) I would recommend that you have HIDs to make up for the loss in visibility. They are very easy to put on…

The cop gave me some crap about not being able to see the front of my car because the headlights were black. I could not believe that it was sunny out side and my FM has some metallic in it but hay that’s life just have to pay the ticket now.

Funny how he couldn't see the front of your car but he could see that you had covers on.....hahahahahaha..............dumb excuse for a petty ticket.

Are you getting different covers?

So, the best thing to do is use the paint spray for the tails? Covers for the front 2?

Also is there any legalities I should be informed about doing this?

like for me i have seen ppl with overlay and spary for thier taillights and it only looks ok, and to make it goodlooking and shiny it has to be dark like the 1 blackrose showed, which is kinda 2 dark imo, so in the end, i stayed with the orginal look.

As Flyingcesar said, he got pulled over for smoking his fronts. If cops see smoked tails lights, they almost always follow your or it at least draws their attention. Also, if your headlights look really dim, that's another sign that will alert them. My blue covers don't block any light and just give the lens an OVERALL blue look and not just blue like blue halogens would give. The more uniform the color, the less likely they are to stop you (unless it's all black)

So if I smoke my tails and side markers I won't be hassled or get any tickets?

I don't think I'm going to do anything with my front until I get a HID set-up so my visibility isnt affected cause safety is a good thing lol.

The rear will impede the amount of light being shown from the tails so that will draw more attention faster than the front IMO. cops around my area hate smoked tails (from what my brother in law tells me...he's a cop)

^It's worse for other driver's and if you get in a rear end collision, the other driver could say "I couldn't see his brakes" and the cop can decide if it's due to your tails being smoked......I'd go really lite on the rear if you do anything.

Well has anybody here been ticketed for their smoked tails?

Also, what about getting brighter bulbs? I have researched LED's but they are not as bright as incandescent bulbs so are there any other bulbs for the tails (e.g. Silverstar)?
